Brazilian Lymphatic Drainage for the Face

Written by Sarah Pareds, Medical Aesthetician

Lymphatic drainage isn’t just for the body. When those same techniques are used on the face, they can help with puffiness, enhance your natural contours and leave you looking noticeably refreshed.

The lymphatic system is a network of vessels, tissues and organs that plays an important role in maintaining the body’s fluid balance. It collects excess fluid from our tissues and eventually returns it to the bloodstream. When it comes to the face, fluid can temporarily accumulate in the tissues and show up as puffiness…especially around the eyes, cheeks and jawline. You may notice it more first thing in the morning, after traveling, or anytime you’re feeling a little more heavy/sluggish than usual.

How does facial lymphatic drainage work?

Manual lymphatic drainage uses light, intentional massage techniques to encourage the movement of lymph fluid through its natural pathways. Because lymphatic vessels are located close to the surface of the skin, this isn’t a deep tissue technique. Gentle, strategic movements are used to encourage fluid away from areas where it has accumulated. For the face, that can mean a temporary reduction in puffiness and a more refreshed appearance. With less excess fluid sitting in the tissues, your natural facial contours may also appear more defined.

What makes the Brazilian Lymphatic Drainage technique different?

Brazilian Lymphatic Drainage takes the principles of traditional lymphatic drainage and combines them with more rhythmic massage, a slightly firmer touch, and sculpting techniques. During a facial treatment, I use lymphatic movements along with more intentional facial massage to address puffiness and enhance the appearance of your natural contours. The visible sculpting effect comes largely from reducing temporary fluid accumulation thus emphasizing said contours.

The Brazilian Lymphatic Glow Facial

My Brazilian Lymphatic Glow Facial combines facial lymphatic drainage and sculpting massage with a relaxing facial experience. The treatment focuses on massage of the face and neck, using intentional movements to encourage lymphatic flow, address puffiness and leave the face looking refreshed and more defined. And while we love the visible results, relaxation is still a big part of the treatment. The facial also includes neck, shoulder, hand and arm massage, making it a really nice option when you want a treatment that feels as good as it looks.

It’s especially great before an event, after traveling, when you’re feeling particularly puffy, or simply when you want a relaxing facial with an immediate glow and no downtime.
