Erasing Under Eye Issues with PRP Injections
WRITTEN BY ABBI SCHUMACHER, NURSE INJECTOR.
We are hearing a lot of interest about our PRP under eye treatments and are loving the response! With the increased chatter we have received some really good questions regarding PRP: What is it? What are the benefits? How long does it last? And potentially more importantly... What about PRF?
I'm hoping to hammer it all out for you in this blog post so we can have a better understanding of exactly what treatment you'll be receiving when you book your under eye treatment here at IB. We'll also compare it to the PRP we prefer for microneedling.
So what is PRP? Is it the same as PRF?
We use the term PRP as kind of an umbrella term regarding the gold colored fluid that is separated from your red blood cells. The preparation of this golden fluid and what we do with it next is where the magic happens. NO matter what way you spin it, the golden fluid is full of our body's healers. This includes: Platelets that release growth factors which stimulate healing, regeneration and collagen production. Plasma that contains electrolytes, fibrinogen, albumin, antibodies, and signaling proteins to promote healing and regeneration. Lastly, white blood cells that release their own growth factors.
For under eye treatments, when the fluid is injected under the skin we want a slower release of these healer ingredients to increase benefits and results. To achieve this slower release form of PRP we do two things:
- The first step is a slower spin of your blood. This slower spin separates your red blood cells from your plasma and creates a composition (fibrin matrix, PRF) with more readily available heater cells mentioned above.
- Step two is warming some of your plasma. We put the top later, with less healer cells into a warmer to creat a gel-like substance that will be mixed with the layer of dense healer cells. The gel-like substance will be absorbed more slowly, and release growth factors slower, therefore increasing benefits and results.
When we are microneedling we want a fast release of healer cells because we know the micro channels in the skin are only open for a limited amount of time. To achieve this we do a faster spin that leaves us with the perfect liquid gold composition for those micro-channels we're creating!
